Within any business it is important that staff morale is maintained in order to maximise their workplace productivity. Perhaps unsurprisingly one factor that can affect their output level is the physical environment they are working in. Here are some of the key points to bear in mind when trying to encourage productivity:
An organised workplace
It’s important to set some ground rules regarding not only clutter on people’s desks but also how and where documents and files are stored. This means that when people need to access important paperwork they know exactly where to find it, first time. Having a specific area to keep archive material can be particularly helpful in this respect.
A functional workplace
As well as being suitably organised, the workspace you provide also needs to be functional. For example, if staff need to talk to potential clients in a private office, but work in an open plan area, then meeting rooms need to be available and bookable to enable this to happen. Similarly, if collaborative projects form part of your company’s agenda, areas where colleagues can work together and bounce ideas off each other need to be provided.
A big enough workplace
Linked to the having a functional workspace is having a big enough workplace for your staff. Offices which are too small can often be noisy, as well as cramped with not enough storage areas for stock or important paperwork. Not only can a bigger office be good for current productivity it also allows the opportunity for growth by providing a stable, continuous environment to expand in.
