Meltham Mills Reservoir

Site Description

Meltham Mills Reservoir is set within 12 acres of woodland situated adjacent to Meltham Mills Industrial Estate and is over 200 years old. It was originally constructed in 1805 to supply water to a cotton factory, then owned by Jonas Brook & Bros. In 1881, the reservoir completely froze, allowing local residents to utilize it as an ice rink!

Towndoor took ownership of the local Meltham Mills Reservoir in 2013, when it’s previous owners were no longer able to continue the maintenance required to appease the Environment Agency. Towndoor became it’s primary undertaker, responsible for the maintenance and safety of the reservoir, spending over a quarter of a million pounds installing a new primary spillway and other maintenance improvements.

As well as providing the local community with rich wildlife, stunning views and footpaths, the reservoir also provides Meltham Mills Industrial Estate with a firefighting water supply and is home to Windybank Fishing Club.

Location

Please note that vehicular access is not permitted at the reservoir, please use Knowle Lane for parking when visiting and be courteous to all local residents who live near or around the reservoir.
