We’re thrilled to showcase another one of our outstanding tenants, who have been leasing units with us for the past 5 years – Black Bull Fitness! We recently caught up with Mohammed Akhtar, the founder of Black Bull Fitness, to get an inside look at the history of the business.

Where it began

Black Bull Fitness began in 2015, but the concept had been brewing for quite some time. Akhtar's passion for gym equipment, particularly commercial gym machinery and design, led him to explore starting a retail business for basic weight training equipment in Huddersfield. Initially, the business started in his own double garage, where weight plates and dumbbells were sourced and marketed to local fitness facilities and a broader client base online.

Where Towndoor stepped in

As sales began to increase, the logistical challenges of dealing with heavy weights in a residential area became apparent, and the business started to suffer as a result. In mid-2018, they decided to establish their product brand design and bespoke products and lease a great starter unit from Towndoor, which enabled Black Bull Fitness to expand and invest in larger machinery and a wider variety of fitness products. It was at this stage the business started to make a presence in the commercial gym sector in the UK and became known for their quality and innovative equipment designs.

Since moving into the unit, demand and popularity for Black Bull Fitness products continued to grow, leading to an expansion of their product range, and supplying various gyms throughout the UK. It quickly became apparent that the initial unit was too small, and a larger warehouse was needed. Towndoor was quick to act, and in mid-2020, Black Bull Fitness was relocated to a larger unit, where they continue to run their day-to-day business.

Plans for the future

Black Bull Fitness has come a long way since its inception in 2015, now supplying to gyms, colleges, and public sectors throughout the UK. Some notable clients include South Yorkshire Police Force, Merseyside Police, and Aston Villa Football Club. As they move forward into 2023, Black Bull Fitness continues to grow and compete with established brands, providing top-quality equipment to gyms across the country.
